local food right to your door

We work behind the scenes to curate the best selection of locally grown & produced items our area offers. You can shop completely ala carte or let us do the shopping for you and start with subscriptions. You can use a combination of both options to ensure everything is tailored perfectly to your household. Keeping sustainability in mind, we focus on the following measures:
  • Reusable packaging - Orders arrive in wax boxes, insulated cold sleeves, and ice packs. You can return these items by leaving your box out during your next delivery. We also package all of the baby greens in post-consumer recycled plastic clamshells. You can send those back for reuse, too!
  • Limit food waste - we reduce our food waste through efficient ordering/trucking and crop planning with farmers. We don’t throw away ugly produce; when it is of poor quality, it gets back-hauled to one of the local farmers they buy produce from to be composted into new soil.
  • Weekly food donations. All leftovers from the week are delivered to local community fridges and donated to West Phillie Produce, Social Impact Cafe, Sunday Love Project, and other local organizations. We also run a low-income farmers market at the warehouse (located in a food desert) that accepts SNAP and makes produce very affordable for our neighbors.
Now is the time of year local farmers need your help the most. Philly Foodworks makes it easy to support our farmers by offering their produce with many supplements such as meat, dairy, baked goods, pantry staples, and more. Read on to learn more about how we source and support our community.

What is Philly Foodworks?

We're an online market and farm share program that is dedicated to creating a sustainable local food system for the Greater Philadelphia region.

What do we do?

We're working to make high-quality, sustainably produced food available to you year-round.

Shop a la carte or select one of our unique subscriptions. Our online market offers the largest selection of local food in the Greater Philadelphia region (including fresh produce, meats, cheeses and other dairy products, baked goods, pantry items and prepared foods, and home and beauty products)—plus fully customizable farm share boxes.

Support local farmers & producers.

We work with a diverse group of farmers and producers to navigate the challenges faced by producing outside of the mainstream commodity food system.

We coordinate the transportation of food from the farms to our warehouse, collaborate closely with growers to reduce crop overlap and help finance crucial investments that increase production yields and overall farm efficiency. We also work to compost all our food waste as well as taking items deemed "ugly" so farmers don't lose crops.

Increase food access to the community.

Since March 2020, when many people in the Philadelphia region lost their jobs due to COVID-19, we have distributed thousands of free food boxes to community members who are struggling to make ends meet.

The food we sell reflects the real cost of production, which often makes it inaccessible for some of our neighbors. To help bridge that gap, we have built relationships with local food cupboards and have worked with Philly-area organizations to distribute food to those in need via fundraising drives, donations, and charity events.
